Publisher review:Prince Clan Chess Club allows hosting of correspondence chess games on a Joomla installation This component allows hosting of correspondence chess games on a Joomla installation with the following features:
- Point-and-click entry of moves.
- Any registered Joomla user can play a game (no group access controls).
- Challenges can be open or specific to any user who has played in at least one game. A user can accept or reject a specific challenge, and challenges can be cancelled if they have not been accepted.
- Games may be forked (that is, a new game created started at any non-final position in any existing game) for analysis purposes.
- All chess rules are enforced, including all castling rules, allowing en passant, and promotion to non-queen pieces.
- Players can offer a draw or resign when it is their move. Draws are then accepted or rejected by the other player.
- Comments for each move can be entered. They show as hover-tips on each move.
- Standard |< > >| navigation, plus jump to any move in the move list.
- There's also a module that lists current status. If no one is logged in, it lists all open challenges. If someone is logged in, it lists games it's the user's move in, games it's the user's opponent's move in, specific challenges to the user, and open challenges.
- SEF URL compliant.
- Translations for Dutch, German, Italian, and Spanish have been donated by several users.
- Future moves can be hidden when looking at an earlier position. This allows posting a link for analysis without giving away the solution.
Current limitations:
- No admin functions - can't delete a game. Although there's a code to use to suspend a game and hide it, this must be done through the DB directly.
- The layout is a rigid table layout for game display, although I think it could be separated into 3 block elements that would make the layout very flexible . It is xhtml-transitional compliant, though.
